Suicide Squad: “Blitz” Trailer
“I’m known to be quite vexing, I’m just fore warning you”
There have been recent rumours that Suicide Squad has been undergoing re-shoots to inject more humour into the film after the negative reviews Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice have received. Following these rumours, Jai Courtney who is playing Captain Boomerang in the film has come out and said this was not the case and I think this trailer proves he is not lying. This trailer is full of new jokes and there is no way they could have put this all together in just two weeks. Hopefully the film will deviate from the joyless tone brought to us by this year’s other DC film. Speaking of, Batman makes a few more appearances in this trailer than ever before which is smart of Warner Bros. behalf because Ben Affleck’s take on Batman was a consensus positive out of Batman v Superman.
While this trailer is similar to the previous one, just set to a different song, it does showcase the squad’s dynamic better than any previous efforts which is exciting to see. With a cast led by Margot Robbie, Will Smith and Jared Leto, this trailer gives hope that each member will have a chance to shine and bounce off each other. I am personally pretty excited to see this cinematic iteration of The Joker and to see what Leto will bring to the role, and this trailer showcases his unhinged and gritty new take, which will probably gel with this new DC extended universe.
If the film matches the tone of this new trailer, placing fun over setting up a cinematic universe, then Suicide Squad may be what DC is looking for to get their franchise up and running.
Suicide Squad is set to be released August 4th.
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them: Teaser Trailer 2
“I wonder, what makes Albus Dumbledore so fond of you, Mr. Scamander?”
I never thought I would hear that music again in front of a new film. This is our first proper glimpse at the new trilogy of movies written by J.K. Rowling set within the Harry Potter universe but way before his time. Following the adventures of Newt Scamander and his magical briefcase in 1920’s America, this trailer introduces the light hearted and explorative tone of this adventure/fantasy film.
The highlight of the trailer is of course Oscar winner Eddie Redmayne showcasing his adorableness in all its British glory. There are ties to the Harry Potter films with Dumbledore and Hogwarts getting a mention straight away to let people know what this movie represents. The film is not as commonly referred to outside of diehard Harry Potter fans, so placing these references in the trailer will help audiences to remember come the end of the year.
As this is a teaser trailer, the tone is set up rather nicely while keeping the story very vague, the only information given is Newt is traveling through America with a case full of dangerous magical beasts and Colin Farrell is not a fan. Not actually Colin Farrell just his antagonistic character. Would be cool and totally out of left field if it was really him. He just used a time turner for 90 years after season 2 of True Detective to become a villainous wizard. Ah the fan fiction I could write if I could concentrate on anything for more than five minutes.
As a huge fan of Harry Potter, this trailer did not need to sell me on anything but I think it provides a good look at the tone and experience of the film without spoiling anything to entice people into checking it out. With J.K. Rowling writing the script and David Yates returning to direct another ‘Potter’ film, hopefully Fantastic Beasts can fill the big shoes of its billion dollar earning older brother movie franchise.
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is set to be released November 17th.
